What If My Garage Door Gets Stuck?

Most people have automatic garage door openers and it's something can easily take for granted. However, when a garage door gets stuck, it can involve a great deal of inconvenience and demand a lot of valuable time when trying to remedy the issues. There are a few common reasons a garage door may get stuck, here is a short list of a few things you may want to consider.

The first thing to look for if your door is stuck is to check the sensors. Most automatic garage doors come with two sensors located on either side toward the bottom of the garage door, they each have a beam that goes out and meets in the middle, any time the beam does not meet, the garage door opener is designed to prevent the door from closing should the beam's interruption be due to a child or pet positioned underneath the garage door. If your door won't move, the first thing you should examine is both of the sensors, also, make sure they haven't been bumped out of alignment, or are obstructed by a leaf or a spider web, or just about anything for that matter.

For a garage door to open and close with ease, can require proper lubrication. If the chain or the tracks on the door lack proper lubrication, then the door may stick, lurch, get rattly and noisy.

Another common reason a door will get stuck is due to damage to the garage door track. The track can be easily damaged if hit with an object, a car, or can bend out of shaped by freezing air. If this is the case, you can try to hammer out a few of the dents on the track. However, for more severe damage, you will need a professional to come out.
